Sharon Britt Island Figurines

Living in Kauai for 50 years Sharon has collected shells and fibers on the beach, in the valleys and all around her lush jungle yard. The pieces she makes are truly labors of love, taking endless hours, ensuring that they are alive with emotion when completed.   Spellbound by observing oceanic art, the fibers she uses are the same universal fibers(papaya trees, palms and Hawaiian tree ferns) used pre-contact, Sharon carry’s them into contemporary time.

Collecting shells since childhood, Sharon has been making shell leis since the 70’s. Shells are jewels to her, “they are treasures unlike anything, made by little creatures, looking for ancient shells, I look for perfect as well as irregular.  I marvel that they have washed around in the vast ocean, pounded and polished by the force of great waves.  Ultimately, I look down and there in front of me, is a true gift from the sea.  I love wearing my shell leis I can feel the power and the beauty of the ocean and that is always a good thing.”
